The competition was hotly contested: a total of 94 entries reflecting the talent and creativity of the country’s architects, designers and artists. “Toits” is a groundbreaking and harmonious concept fusing culture, architecture and urbanism, created from the geometry of roofs, which is part of the collective unconscious, alluding to the essence of our cities. The piece was conceived with strong cultural roots in mind, from Paul Klee to Italo Calvino, and represents the hypnotic power of architecture in its intimate relationship with the turmoil of urban life.

Also noteworthy were the two SPECIAL MENTION awards awarded by the sculpture jury to the finalist designs “The proportion of success”, by Javier Pérez de Amezaga Tomás and Gerardo Pérez de Amezaga Tomás; and “KAFKA”, by the architect Pablo Moreno Mansilla.

During the presentation of the sculpture, which was attended by the winning team, the CSCAE Governance team and members of the juries of the Sculpture Competition, the ARQUITECTURA and the Gold Medal Awards, the President of CSCAE, Marta Vall-llossera, praised, in particular, the originality and versatility of the winning design: “It has captured the spirit of this new award format, with which we strive to bring architecture even closer to society, disseminating its values and its ability to improve people’s well-being. The winning design conveys the interaction between the buildings and homes we inhabit and the city as a living entity that changes and adapts to people’s needs and the challenges of current times”.

On behalf of the winning sculpture team, Ana Muñoz López, highlighted: “We sought to recreate an object capable of evoking a straightforward, yet universal image of architecture. We play with the abstract shape of a house, conceived from the idea of the stacking pieces toy, a nod to our inner child, who touches, who tries, who has fun without fear, and whose creativity is so necessary and, at the same time, so difficult to keep up in our profession. We hope that the winners of the ARQUITECTURA Awards enjoy TOITS and reminisce about the creative and simple nature of playing.

All participants agreed that the quality of construction materials will be one of the keys to extending the useful life of our buildings, which will guarantee durability and safety.
